In 2016, the late Alan Hawkins approached Polio and Children in Need Charity to fund further additional studies in public administration for a young adult, Lucy Gizagiza, who was both a polio victim and mother of two children whose ages at that time were seven and three years old.  Although Lucy had completed her certification in stenography, she aspired to further her studies so that she could seek meaningful employment and better assist her own children in their schoolwork. 

 “I would like to go back to school in order to upgrade myself so that I can get better employment  to educate my children and sustain myself. I am crippled, I cannot do any manual work from which I can get income for my sustainability.” Lucy Gizagiza
